Jordan Spieth Became the Youngest American to Win the British Open

The Masters - Preview Day 2

Golfer Jordan Spieth made a bigtime comeback to win the British Open Tournament yesterday.  And at just 23 years old, he’s the youngest American to ever win it.

He had a three-shot lead with 18 holes to go, but then he started losing it . . . and things went from bad to worse on the 13th hole, when his drive went into some thick brush 40 feet from the fairway, on the backside of a hill.  And after 20 minutes of searching for his ball, he was forced to take a penalty drop.

Miraculously, he made bogey on that hole, taking a five on the Par-Four.  That turned everything around.  He shot five under par over the last five holes, and that was enough to edge runner-up Matt Kuchar by three strokes.

He’s now the second-youngest golfer to win the first three legs of the CAREER grand slam.  He also won the 2015 Masters and the 2015 U.S. Open.  Only Jack Nicklaus did it faster.  Jordan could complete his Grand Slam at the 2017 PGA Championship next month, and if he does, he’d be the youngest to win them all.

Deadspin.com has footage from Jordan’s nearly disastrous 13th hole and here’s video of a mic catching him calling it a, quote, “crap shot.”  He was in much better spirits after he won.  Click here for video of him attempting to slap his caddie IN THE JUNK.
