Snapchat has been taking heat for a recent ad that seemed to trivialize Chris Brown beating the crap out of Rihanna in 2009. The ad was for a mobile game called ‘Would You Rather,’ and it asked, “Would you rather slap Rihanna, or punch Chris Brown?”
Rihanna attacked the ad on Instagram yesterday, saying, “I’d love to call it ignorance, but I know you ain’t that dumb! You spent money to animate something that would intentionally bring shame to domestic violence victims and made a joke of it!!!”
And Rihanna’s criticism might carry some weight.
Some reports point out that Snapchat’s stock was down 3.6% yesterday, but it’s hard to say if Rihanna had anything to do with it. The fall was within its normal volatility…and the stock is still at the same price as it was two weeks ago.
Regardless, Snapchat has taken down the ad and apologized…saying it was, “approved in error, [and] it violates our advertising guidelines.”
