BTS Announce 'Extended Period Of Rest And Relaxation' After 6-Year Run

ABC's "Good Morning America" - 2019

For the first time since launching their music career in 2013, BTS will be taking an "official and extended period of rest and relaxation."

Big Hit Entertainment, the K-pop band's South Korea-based entertainment company took to Twitter to announce the group would go into hiatus after Sunday's (August 11) Lotte Duty Free Family Concert.

“This period of rest will be an opportunity for the members of BTS, who have relentlessly driven themselves towards their goal since their debut, to recharge and prepare to present themselves anew as musicians and creators," the statement reads, adding that the break intends to provide bandmates Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook "with a chance to enjoy the ordinary lives of young people in their 20s, albeit briefly."

To say BTS has been putting in work over the past six years is a total understatement. They're the best-selling artist in South Korea of all-time, having sold over 14 million albums, and their 2019 record Map of the Soul: Persona remains the best-selling album in Korean history.

The septet set the bar last year by becoming the first and only Korean act to top the US Billboard 200 with their album, Love Yourself: Tear. The band proved they could repeat the achievement two more times with 2018's Love Yourself: Answer and Map of the Soul: Persona in 2019, making them the first group since The Beatles to have three number-one albums within less than a year's time.

That being said, we think BTS is long overdue for some much-deserved R&R.
