Dallas Mavs, Stars, And College Basketball Teams Delay Games Due To Weather

Nashville Predators v Dallas Stars

Multiple pro sports and collegiate basketball teams delayed games this week because of winter weather and power outages in Texas.

The NBA postponed a game between the Detroit Pistons and the Dallas Mavericks that was scheduled for Wednesday night at the American Airlines Center.

The NHL also joined the NBA in postponing games at the AAC. Three Dallas Stars home games (Monday and Tuesday versus the Nashville Predators; and Thursday versus the Tampa Bay Lightening) have been put on ice.

The Stars postponed Monday's game at the request of Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson. The AAC is on the critical infrastructure grid, which keeps Dallas hospitals and the convention center powered even when electricity is out in other parts of the city, according to the Dallas Morning News.

“I don’t know the status of that grid, but frankly, the Stars game is not critical infrastructure. It’s just not," said Tristan Hallman, a spokesperson for Mayor Johnson.

“The American Airlines Center could be critical infrastructure if we were using it for critical infrastructure. We don’t need people across the region who have power using power to watch the game.”

College teams also postponed area basketball games, including:

  • Texas vs. Oklahoma (men's)
  • Texas Tech vs. TCU (men's)
  • Oklahoma vs. Baylor (women's)
