Every year, Google releases its "Year in Search" roundup that reveals the top searches of the year. In 2022, the Robb Elementary School school shooting that took place in Uvalde on May 24 made global headlines and in turn popped up on Google's list — more than once.

Search data in the U.S. from January 1 to November 27 revealed that "Texas school shooting" was the 7th most searched news story of the year. Election results, Queen Elizabeth's passing and Ukraine rounded out the top three.

Google divided the results into categories and the "How to help" results show that "How to help Uvalde?" was a major ask around the country this year. The top three includes "How to help Ukraine," "How to help Ukrainian refugees" and "How to help abortion rights."

People also wanted to know how to pronounce Uvalde. This search term was ranked No. 10 in the "How to pronounce" category which was led by people wondering how to pronounce Qatar, Kyiv and puzzle.

What makes a Google search actually trend? "Lists are based on search terms that had the highest spike this year as compared to the previous year," the search engine said about its list.
