THE MOVIES: Glass set to dominate the MLK weekend!

Director M. Night Shyamalan returns with Glass, which is the only new release over the Dr. Martin Luther King holiday. Glass will dominate the four-day weekend with revenue reaching $50 million.

If the prediction holds, Glass will be the second-largest January opening behind American Sniper, which starred Bradley Cooper. (Box Office Mojo)

Glass is the third movie in a superhero franchise that started in 2000 with Samuel L. Jackson and Bruce Willis in Unbreakable followed by 2017’s Split starring James McAvoy.

Preview Glass screenings at 3,800 theaters began Thursday night with an estimated haul of $4 million. (Deadline Hollywood)

#TobysTake - I went to see this movie the other night as a guest of the movie company, and our partners over at Allied Marketing... and they did not pay me to say what I'm going to say, but I wanted to let you know that they did allow me to get an advance screening of the show...

That being said...

This movie is great. If you love comics, a dose of fantasy, the world of superheroes and villains and more, and if you love thrillers that keep you guessing, wondering and on the edge of your seat, you will love this moie. It's a return to form for the great director M. Night Shyamalan, who first wowed us with THE SIXTH SENSE back in the day. The story is compelling, the third in a trilogy of movies which started with UNBREAKABLE, and which was followed up by SPLIT. The entire journey took the director 19 years... and I've been someone who was lucky enough to go along for that ride... and it was worth it.

Shyamalan is a bit of a HOLLYWOOD renaissance man in that he is one of a few great directors who likes to work with "his people..." Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson star along with James McAvoy... and that chemistry is so potent. You'll no doubt recognize other faces from past Shyamalan films, and you'll also recognize another star of the film... the City of Philadelphia. Shyamalan takes every chance to put his city, and his region, in Pennsylvania on display in film and this movie is no exception.

The movie has so many unexpected plot twists, turns... the only thing you should expect is the unexpected... and that you'll experience it from the edge of your seat. And, pay close attention to his use of sound... and music... I don't want to give anything away, but this music plays such an important role in shaping - manipulating - and guiding the movie... it's really quite masterful.

Don't believe the BS of these ridiculous online review sites or those who want to leave poopy-pants reviews about the movie for whatever reason... probably related to the fact that they were reviewing the film while wearing soiled unclean undergarments or whatnot.

Glass is two hours of escape that take your mind on an adventure which makes you imagine... think... and escape into a world which shows just how great of a storyteller Shyamalan really is. It's masterful.

It's in theaters this weekend. Take the time to see it. I think you'll be glad you did.
