FDA says "Contacting COVID-19 from Food Packaging is Low Risk"

Stores Offer Shopping Times For Elderly And Vulnerable Citizens To Protect Against Coronavirus Transmission

It's no doubt that things have definitely altered our way of living recently. Our hands have never been so dry from cleaning them constantly. There seems to be an insane need for disinfectant wipes, cleaning products and toilet paper.

If you're like me and have kicked into overdrive to keep your environment clean to protect your family from the COVID-19 virus, rest easy. Recently, I went to the store to grab a couple of things and when I was there it seemed so chaotic that when I got home, I wiped down my groceries with disinfectant wipes. Turns out, the CDC and FDA say that contacting COVID-19 from food is very low risk.

The FDA says "Currently there is no evidence of food or food packaging being associated with transmission of COVID-19"

The CDC also states, "in general, because of poor survivability of these coronaviruses on surfaces, there is likely very low risk of spread from food products or packaging that are shipped over a period of days or weeks at ambient, refrigerated, or frozen temperatures."

The CDC goes onto to recommend proper food handling safety and you can read about it HERE!

I do think we need to practice measures for what is safe for us. But, mostly the CDC still holds to the claim that we are most likely to contract COVID-19 through touching a hard surface with the virus on it and then touching our face.
